Only available to Juniors and Seniors

Workplace Experience is a one-term course providing students with work experience in fields related to their career interest. Goals are typically set cooperatively by the student, teacher and workplace supervisor. These courses may include classroom activities as well, involving further study of the field or discussion regarding experiences that students encounter in the assigned workplace.

NOTE: Workplace Experience students should not be assigned to locations where family members would supervise the student. Workplace Experience is a pass/no pass class only; students will not receive a letter grade.

In order to earn Elective credit with Workplace Experience a student will need to complete 45 hours of paid work OR 45 hours of volunteer services within the term they are taking the course.

NOTE: Multiple credits can be earned within a term.

SWOCC Classes

There are two different options for receiving college credits from Southwestern Oregon Community College, through Dual Credit on the North Bend High School Campus and through the Expanded Options program where students take classes either online or on campus.

Based upon articulation agreements between Southwestern Oregon Community College and the North Bend School District, some classes have been identified as eligible for Dual Credit. This means that a NBHS student enrolled in a class at NBHS for high school credit has the option of dual-enrolling at SOCC for college credit for the same course. This option is offered to students who meet the age and prerequisite requirements (See instructors for specific information).

Students must complete SOCC dual enrollment paperwork to be eligible for SOCC credits. Students are expected to understand and abide by enrollment policies at both North Bend High School and Southwestern Oregon Community College. Students will receive information from SOCC regarding withdrawal and drop dates, which will differ from the NBHS policy of allowing class changes only within the first seven (7) days of each trimester.

The courses that are dual credit options will be indicated with the *DC* notation.

Expanded Options

  • This course is reserved for students interested in taking college classes offered at SOCC, but not through NBHS. Students must have completed the following to be considered for approval:

    1. Fill out the EO paperwork available from Student Services. There is no electronic copy of this paperwork.
    2. Students fill out the required forms and acquire necessary signatures. SOCC course offerings can be viewed by term at the following link.
    3. Students turn in completed paperwork to Student Services in person.
    4. Students should continually check their MyLakerLink account for course placement.

    SOCC ACADEMIC CALENDAR

See the SOCC Academic calendar website at this link.

NBHS staff are NOT notified of a student’s placement into their classes, nor are we able to track their registration.

NBHS is unable to approve all requests due to limited availability of state-awarded credits. Students will be approved on a case-by-case basis; first come, first served with the exception that SOCC will be offered to Seniors as a priority. If credits remain after all the eligible Seniors are placed, NBHS counselors and administrators will award classes to Juniors as available. If a student fails any SOCC class, they will automatically be denied for future applications. Underclassmen are not eligible for SOCC Off Campus classes.

    Textbooks for Expanded Options:

    1. Go to the Bookstore link and order the books under “Textbooks”

    2. If the textbooks are online and the class was approved by NBSD, it will automatically be charged to NBSD
