Course offerings generally change every microterm based on student need and available opportunities. These are classes that have been offered in the past and will likely continue to be offered on a rotating basis.

Science offerings change over the course of the year. Previous classes have included:
Ecology: This is a 6-week course that focuses on the function of ecosystems and organism roles. The goal is for students to understand how complex ecosystems function and how individual organisms and species contribute to healthy biodiversity, as well as practice mitigating negative impacts.
Geology: this is a 6-week course that focuses on local Oregon rock types and land formations. The goal is for students to be able to recount the geologic history of Oregon and be prepared for natural disasters in this region.
Marine Biology: This is a 6-week course that focuses on life in oceans, including physical features of the oceans, groups of organisms, marine habitats, and environmental issues. The goal is for students to understand the complexities of life in the ocean and the challenges faced there.
Astronomy: This is a 6-week course that focuses on the universe and space, including stars and galaxies, our solar system, and exoplanets. The goal is for students to come away with an understanding of the physical universe we live in, and how it works.
Genetics and Natural Selection: This is a 6-week course that focuses on genetics and the process and results of natural selection. The goal is for students to come away with an understanding of inheritance and how it's affected by both artificial and natural processes, and be able to explain how species change over time.
Botany: This is a 6-week course that focuses on the world of plants, including their evolution, identification, anatomy, and ecology. The goal is for students to come away with an understanding of this major group of life and how they contribute to stable ecosystems.
Self-Paced Astronomy: This is a self-paced online-only course assigned at the discretion of staff. Students may proceed through the course at their own pace, although it is advised to complete it within a microterm of 6 weeks. This course does require regular communication with a teacher for progress checks.

Health options are largely self-paced and may be subject to availability.
Early Childcare (class through Portland State, online-only)
Healthy Living: Self-paced class through Edgenuity. Students are encouraged to make responsible, respectful, informed, and capable decisions about topics that affect the well-being of themselves and others.
Psychology: Self-paced class through Edgenuity. Students will be introduced to the study of psychology to include the fundamental concepts in research, theory, and human behavior.
Vector Trainings: Self-paced class. Students complete online trainings on blood-borne pathogens, etc.
PE class: Takes advantage of available equipment and weather conditions to stay active and learn a variety of games and physical activities, including ping-pong, pickleball, and spikeball.
*PE Log: Self-paced. Students will log a predetermined amount of physical activity and obtain appropriate parent or guardian signatures certifying completion.
Greenhouse: Students participate in our greenhouse on campus to complete hands-on projects and grow plants. Skills learned include: collaboration, safe use of power tools, construction projects, and planting, caring for, and marketing plants to the community.
Art and Science: Students choose from a 'projects catalogue' to produce artwork that relates to science. Possible projects include: paper mache, pencil sketching, painting, collage, sculpture, and indigenous art forms.
Indian Legends of the Pacific Northwest: Self-paced class. Students learn about local native myths and legends and create maps and art.
Painting: Students use provided self-paced videos to create paintings.
Elective offerings change over the course of the year. Self-paced offerings and work experience are always available. We have a partnership with HippoRecruit to help students find jobs and internships, and apply to college and trade school.
Board Games: Students are exposed and practice a variety of stimulating games that emphasize math and language arts skills, strategy, quick-thinking, and problem-solving. These include Cribbage, Boggle, Scrabble, Gin Rummy, Farkle, and others.
*Work Experience: Students who work can submit pay stubs or volunteer logs. Every 45 hours of paid work will earn 1.0 credit. Students must have a supervisor's signature on pay stubs or volunteer logs. Supervisors cannot be direct relatives of the student.
*Journal Writing: Students will complete 45 pages journal writing. Prompts can be provided or students can choose what they write about.
*Reading Log: Students will complete and log a 45 hours of grade-appropriate reading. A parent or guardian MUST sign the reading log.
*Soft Skills to Pay the Bills: Students will be introduced to valuable non-technical skills needed to be successful in the workplace
*Quotes: Students will complete written reflections on 45 pre-selected quotes.
*Contemporary Issues: Students will read 45 news articles and complete a short summary of the article as well as a brief synopsis of their personal opinion as it relates to the article.
